“The great thing in this world is not so much where you stand, as in what direction you are moving.”

Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809 - 1894)

It is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity to introduce B-M Korea’s first newsletter –  B-M in Motion!

In June of last year, I returned to Korea after working in both Hong Kong and Japan. My time abroad proved to be extremely enlightening as I worked in markets where PR, as a discipline, is very similar to Korea but also quite different.  For instance, who would have thought that in Japan the fax is still used for press release distribution?  Or that in China it is standard to ensure that transportation costs are immediately extended to the journalists who attend press conferences?

While I was exposed to many differences in culture as well as practice, I too gained greater appreciation and respect for the development of PR in Korea— but more importantly, the talent pool.   Smart, ambitious and always focused on training and development, Korean PR professionals – in my view – are taking this country, as well as its corporates, to a new level of regional and global appreciation.  When offered the chance to return to Korea, I jumped at the opportunity to be back working amongst the world’s best communicators.

B-M has been built on a legacy of award-winning client work and high profile national campaigns. The staff is comprised of veterans – Sunmi Kim has been with the firm for 15 years as of February 2011 – and we too have industry professionals – crisis managers, in-house pharmaceutical professionals and ex-journalists – to help us continue the path of success for the firm.

This newsletter will help to provide an overview of just how busy we have been across client work, marketing build, and team development over the past few months. In 2010, we have managed to diversify our business practices into healthcare and digital.  We have attracted top talent and we have been aggressive in marketing the value of B-M Korea and its capabilities. Moving into 2011, we are extremely excited about the opportunities ahead as there are many (!) and the team is well-poised and confident as we stride ahead and distinguish ourselves as Korea’s leading international consultancy.

I take great pride in being a part of this team and firm and when I look to the future of the firm, I see us carrying on the B-M legacy and shining bright in the Korean PR industry.

Thank you for your continued interest and support in our team and a B-M Korea that is moving ahead full-throttle!
